What I’ve Been up to Lately

January 2023

Phew! Can you believe how long it’s been? I’m sorry about that! This year one of my goals is to write a monthly update on what I’m up to as well as to post story content regularly. So if I miss a month, feel free to send a message and poke me 😉

So what have I been up to?

Honestly, last year was really hard for me in general. And, given that writing is a creative process, that smacked my writing in the face. I barely wrote from about January until October. But the past few months I’ve been getting back into writing and it’s been a lot of fun.

So! I’m about 7/8th of the way through writing The Riches of a Life Well-lived. You guys, I really LOVE the themes in this one! It’s so great getting to meditate on how growing helps us move forward even when we’re stuck in the same circumstances. It’s something I’ve needed to hear in my own life!

I also had the fun of teaching a high school storycrafting class in Fall of 2022, and since I did the exercises along with the kids, I figured I might as well write the novel to go with it 😉 So for nanowrimo 2022, I wrote a story that I have yet to title. It’s so fun, y’all! I took the plot of Little Red Riding Hood, set it under the sea, and pulled in some magic and some fun characters. It’s a story about a mermaid who just doesn’t quite fit in. She’s clumsy and considers herself unattractive, and she doesn’t have the best relationship with her mother. Poor Rosie has to take supplies through the dangerous kelp forest to her cursed grandmother. By the end of the story though, she discovers that the things she hated about herself are actually some of her greatest strengths and that fear never makes things better. Anyway! It was a blast to write and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did 🙂

My plan is to start posting chapters of The Riches of a Life Well-lived on my site this week and then I’ll start cross-posting on fanfiction.net and wattpad the week after that. Then, once I’m in a groove with that one (hopefully within a couple weeks), I’ll do the same thing with Rosie’s story. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes though.

If you’d like to be notified of when I post the newest chapters, subscribe to my writing email list.

Hope to see you soon!

Love,

Elizabeth
