New Year’s Plans
January 2024
Hope you all had lovely holidays. Mine were nice 🙂
So what did I do in December and what are my general goals for this year?
In December, I read Mutante out loud to my family. Thanks to being around my writing for more than a decade at this point, they’re really great at editing my work. I have a few rewrites to make and then I’ll be sending the story off to an editor.
I also spent some time playing around with the first book of my fantasy series, Teloria. It’s a series about an unwanted princess who ends up being the only hope of safety her kingdom has. Princess Ilane’s parents are poisoned by an evil magician, so that he can gain access to her, which throws her into the world of magic and intrigue. She has to learn to accept magic (which she believed to be a myth) and to figure out why the magician wants her. All of this requires her to learn to trust people—something she has never been good at. And, of course, she finds love along the way 😉 It’s a series I spent a couple years working on, but it’s been a decade since I have done anything with it. I’m hoping to rewrite the first book and then send that off to an editor this summer also.
Eventually this year, I plan to look at another Pride & Prejudice fic, but I’m not sure which one at this point. Feel free to send me ideas if you have some 🙂
We also read The Six Types of Working Genius by Patrick Lencioni in December. It’s been really great for helping us think through how we do things as a family. One thing that came out of it though was that I’ve been so worn out in large part because I spent all of 2023 editing, which is really draining to me. I absolutely love the early parts of a story but once it’s about 3/4 of the way written, it requires will-power to finish. I plan to outsource more of my editing in future (as you may have noticed) and to spend more time in those either rewriting or early stages of the writing process. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep you posted!
So there you go! That’s what’s currently on the docket. See you February 15!
Love you guys!
